Commercial & Multifamily Radon Testing and Mitigation in Minnesota and North Dakota
The people who work, live, and learn in your building deserve clean air. We test and fix radon in offices, apartments, schools, and new builds with clear reports, careful scheduling, and the same honest service we bring to every family's home.

The Same Ground Under Our Homes Is Under Our Businesses
Radon is a natural gas that rises from the soil and into any building with ground contact, not just houses. Offices, shops, apartments, schools, and churches can all collect radon, especially on lower levels and in buildings that stay closed up through our long winters. And because people often spend eight or more hours a day at work, a building's air quality matters as much as the air at home.
Here in the Red River Valley and lakes country, radon is part of the landscape.
21,000
Estimated U.S. lung cancer deaths each year linked to radon, according to the EPA. It's the second leading cause of lung cancer overall and the leading cause among non-smokers.
63%
Share of North Dakota homes above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L, according to the ND Department of Environmental Quality. The EPA places every North Dakota county in Zone 1, its highest-potential category.
2 in 5
Minnesota homes above the action level, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
1 in 5
Schools nationwide with at least one room above the action level, based on an EPA national survey. That's an estimated 70,000+ classrooms.
The good news: radon in a commercial building is just as measurable and fixable as radon in a home. The EPA recommends testing schools and other regularly occupied buildings, and the first step is simply knowing your number.
Good for Your People. Good for Your Property.
- Protect employees and tenants. Show the people in your building that their health comes first, with documented results you can share.
- Keep financing and transactions moving. Radon testing often comes up in lender reviews, HUD-financed projects, and commercial property sales. Having current results on file means fewer surprises at the closing table.
- Practice good due diligence. Testing gives owners, boards, and facility managers clear documentation that indoor air has been checked and addressed.
- Protect your investment. A properly designed system adds lasting value and gives future buyers and tenants confidence in the building.
- Fix it once, the right way. Many commercial systems are designed into a building's existing layout and run quietly for years with minimal upkeep.

Commercial Testing Is Different.
We Plan It That Way.
Larger buildings have more foundation, more rooms, and more ways for radon to move. Radon levels can vary from one room or unit to the next, so a single test in one spot doesn't tell the whole story. In multifamily buildings, research reviewing nearly 8,000 radon measurements found that testing only a sample of ground-level units can miss units with high radon. That's why national standards call for testing every ground-contact unit in most buildings.
Site walkthrough.
We review your building's foundation, layout, HVAC, and how the space is used, then build a testing plan that fits.
Testing plan and setup.
We place professional monitors in occupied ground-contact rooms or units, following ANSI/AARST protocols for multifamily and large buildings. We schedule setup and pickup around your hours and notify tenants as needed.
Clear results and a written report.
You get documented results in plain language, ready to share with owners, boards, lenders, or tenants.
Honest recommendations.
If levels are fine, we'll tell you. If some areas are high, we'll explain your options and what makes sense for your building and budget.

Mitigation Designed Around Your Building and Your Business
No two commercial buildings are the same, so no two systems are either. We design each system around your foundation, square footage, and radon levels. That may mean multiple suction points, crawlspace vapor barriers, or tying into an existing passive system in a newer building.
Minimal disruption.
We plan installs around business hours, tenant schedules, and school calendars whenever possible.
Clean, careful work.
We protect your space and leave work areas tidy.
Verified results.
We retest after installation to confirm levels have come down, and provide documentation for your records.
Ongoing support.
System checks and retesting keep your building protected for years to come.

FAQs
Is radon testing required for commercial buildings in Minnesota or North Dakota?
For most private businesses, there's no blanket state requirement to test. But radon testing is often required by financing programs, including many HUD-insured multifamily projects, and it comes up regularly in commercial transactions. The EPA recommends testing schools and other regularly occupied buildings, and in our region, where radon levels run high, testing is simply good practice.
How is commercial testing different from testing a home?
A home usually needs one test on the lowest lived-in level. Commercial and multifamily buildings need a testing plan, with monitors placed in multiple occupied rooms or ground-contact units, because levels can vary throughout a building. We follow national ANSI/AARST protocols for multifamily and large buildings and provide a written report of the results.
Will testing or mitigation disrupt my business or tenants?
Very little. Testing equipment is small and quiet, and setup takes only a short time per room or unit. Most spaces operate normally during testing. For mitigation, we plan work around your business hours, tenant schedules, or school breaks and keep work areas clean.
How much does commercial radon mitigation cost?
It depends on the building's size, foundation type, layout, and radon levels. Every commercial project starts with a free walkthrough and estimate, so you'll know exactly what's recommended and what it costs before any work begins.
How often should a commercial building be retested?
We recommend retesting every couple of years, after renovations or HVAC changes, and after any mitigation system is installed. Schools that test below the action level are generally advised to retest about every five years. Buildings with a mitigation system benefit from regular checkups to confirm everything is still working.
